Program Title: NewFound Records - Ep. 503 - Musical News from 1959 & 1969
Description: Today we roll back the clock sixty years to 1959, the year that The Confederation Building replaced The Colonial Building as the home of Newfoundland & Labrador's House of Assembly.
Musically, country & western band The Dipsydoodlers released their one and only LP and it was a doozy! Omar Blondahl returned from the ice fields and dropped his album The Great Seal Hunt of Newfoundland. And John (Skinny) White's first of many wonderful LPs, Irish Folk Songs hit the record bins.
We then fast forward to 1969, the year that the CN Buses replaced the passenger trains on the island. Musically, Carol Brothers of All Around the Circle Fame released her only LP, superstar pop diva Mary Lou Collins tried to crack the charts with her first single... and Laverne Squires recorded music that was destined to remain buried in vinyl oblivion for almost five decades before it finally saw the light!
Lots more great local music from ‘59 & ‘69 as well!
