Description: Happy Hallowe'en! In this week's episode, we present Strauss's Die Fledermaus, a crowd pleaser replete with masks and masquerade and even a bat suit.
This operetta, composed by Johann Strauss to a German libretto co-written by Karl Haffner and Richard Genée premiered in Vienna in 1874. The version we'll listen to here is peformed by the Bayerisches Staatsorchester (Bavarian State Orchestra) conducted by Carlos Kleiber and features the voices of Julia Varady, Lucia Popp, Herman Prey Julia Varady, Lucia Popp, Hermann Prey, René Kollo, Bernd Weikl and Ivan Rebroff.
