Program Title: Routes & Branches & Beyond, show # 172
Description: This week on "Routes & Branches & Beyond," I celebrate spending the last couple of weeks attending (virtually) the 2021 Celtic Connections Festival from Glasgow. It is an all-Scottish show, from performers who were at the festival this year. There are sinewy fiddles, jaunty accordions, peripatetic concertinas, pulsing guitars, rippling harps, bouncing basses, subtle synths (the finest kind), plucky mandolins, soaring pipes and Afro-Pict Acid Croft. Songs about greedy mine company executives, the searing pain of parting, traditional Gaelic pieces about how the cabbage was ruined and soaking ragged old men in a stream, tweed-working, the games people play, and spinning wheels (not the bicycle cardio types). Can you spare an hour for Scotland?
