Program Title: We need to have more conversations about deportation and Our community
Description: Im/migration myth busting week happened in the Springtime of this year, on March 18th-22nd at the University of Guelph campus. The campaign commenced with a speakers event about Canada’s system of deportation of poor and working class racialized im/migrants. Matthew Behrens spoke at the event and Migrant Matters Radio recorded his talk. Behrens is a long-time community organizer and has worked closely with the targets of Canadian and U.S. “national security” profiling for many years. He is a co-coordinator of the Campaign to Stop Secret Trials in Canada, and founder of the Anne Frank Sanctuary Committee, which works to promote church sanctuary for refugees. The event was organized by the all-volunteer-run Guelph-based migrant worker advocacy collective Fuerza/Puwersa.
