Program Title: Routes & Branches & Beyond, show # 177
Description: It is that time of year again when we celebrate Patrick, a fellow who was first taken as a slave to Ireland and was eventually adopted as a patron saint by his adopted land. So you see the value of come-from-aways? He is also said to have banished snakes - from a land that didn't have them to start with (which is a nice trick if you can get away with it). So this week on "Routes & Branches & Beyond" I feature "Paddy in song and tune," with polkas, welcomes, jigs, odes and wry observations on St. Patrick (and the many who are named after him). We follow Paddy's many travels - to the railroad, to heaven, to the Punjab, to Trinidad, even to the kitchen and the sauna. Musical artists include Bruce Molsky, Dervish, Carlos Nunez, James Gordon, Oliver Schroer, Gaelic Storm, Wenches & Rogues, Tom Lewis, Fairport Convention, Shake Sugaree, Rattle the Boards, Orealis and Leonard Podolak. Pour yourself a cup of your favourite green beverage and join me.
