In 2008, on the November 5 Student Day of Action to Drop Fees, over 10,000 students took to the streets in fourteen cities across Ontario to demand a more affordable and accessible system of post-secondary education. The Drop Fees campaign was initiated by the Canadian Federation of Students-Ontario, the student organization representing over 300,000 college and university students across the province.
This year, the “Drop Fees� campaign has been expanded to “Drop Fees for a Poverty-Free Ontario.� Shelley Melanson, Chairperson of the Canadian Federation of Students-Ontario, tells us why.
