Program Title: Routes & Branches & Beyond, show # 221
Description: The humbling (and liberating) thing about research is how diverse our world actually is, when we dig below the tweets and posts of the daily circus. Take saints. Who knew there were so many? And so often their names end up in song and tune titles! Saints like Marcoise, Saveur, Kilda, Catherine, Joseph, Clement, James, Swithin, George or even Judas (though there's a story to that one).
Today on "Routes & Branches & Beyond" we devote another hour to music with some relation to saints. There's Euro-Quebec "come what may" attitude, Scots-Canadian carpenter ruminations, kitchen step-dancing, landscapes put to music, Hebridean wedding marches, folkish complaints, tasty competition fiddle, neo-vaudeville troubadours, toxic patriotism, Irish jazz harps, Dixieland street beats and Trinidadian vignettes.
With musicians like Matapat, Kathryn Tickell, Rory McLeod, Pierre Schryer, Kobo Town, Ad Vielle Que Pourra, Edith Butler and Norma Waterson.
Join me. Genuflecting is optional.
